Every great wedding ceremony has an opening, a body and a conclusion. Below are ten benedictions some contemporary, and others spiritual. A couple can select the one that best reflects their thoughts, feelings, ideas and beliefs. The benediction is usually placed just before the pronouncement and introduction.

1. The two of you are now joined in one unbroken circle. Wherever you go, may you always return to one another in your togetherness. May you two find in each other the love for which all men and women long. May you grow in understanding and in compassion. May the home that you establish be such a place of sanctuary that all who visit will find there a friend. And may the Lord bless you and keep you forevermore. Amen.
    

2. Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be shelter to the other. Now you will feel no cold for each of you will be warmth to each other. Now there is no more loneliness, for each of you will be a companion to the other. Now you are two bodies, but there is only one life between you, go now to your lives, to enter into the days of your togetherness. And may your days be good and long upon the earth.
    

3. Treat yourselves and each other with respect, and remind yourselves often of what brought you together. Give the highest priority to the tenderness, gentleness, and kindness that your connection deserves. If each of you takes responsibility for the quality of your life together, it will be marked by abundance and delight.
    

4. May your souls always bathe in the truth and light of understanding. May your love always lift your head to the heavens, while your feet remain deeply rooted in the earth. May your love be not only of your minds but of your hearts, and may your hearts always be open to one another. May your love be a sanctuary for one another and all you hold sacred. May your love always honor the One who first loved you and inspired you to love another---the One who brought you together--- Creator of us all.
    

5. May the sun bring you new energy by day. May the moon softly restore you by night. May the rain wash away your worries, and may you live the days of your lives in peace, love, and happiness.
    

6. May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon the fields. May the gracious God hold you both in the palm of His hands. And, today, may the Spirit of Love find a dwelling place in your hearts. Amen.
    

7. May God's blessings rest upon you, may God's peace abide with you, and may God's presence illuminate your hearts, now and forevermore. Amen.
    

8. May the Peace that passes all understanding be yours now and forevermore.
    

9. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. Amen.
    

10. May there always be work for your hands to do. May your purse always hold a coin or two. May the sun always shine on your windowpane. May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain. May the hand of a friend always be near you. May God fill your hearts with gladness to cheer you.
